Ryan Guzman (born September 21, 1987) is an American actor and model. He is best known for portraying Sean Asa in the fourth and fifth installments of the Step Up series. Before he began acting, he was a model.

Early Life and Career[]

Guzman was born in Abilene, Texas, to Lisa (née Hudson) and Ray Guzman. He moved to Sacramento, California, his mother's native city, at a young age. He attended Sierra College. Guzman has a younger brother, Steven. His father is Mexican. His mother, who was born in California, has English, Scottish, German, French, and Dutch ancestry.

He played baseball in high school where he was ranked one of the best left handed pitchers in the state and continued playing at Sierra College.

An injury ended his baseball career short of his aspirations but he then followed another passion of his, becoming a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter. While fighting in Sacramento he stayed busy on his down time, modeling in San Francisco where he a worked on campaigns such as Abercrombie & Fitch and Reebok.

He moved to LA in September of 2010 and continued to model for Wilhelmina and LA Models while quickly starting another career in commercials, booking 6 commercials in a span of 6 months. The acting bug bit him hard within the six months and so he began to study acting on his own with friends and then later on with a coach. When he felt he was ready he asked his modeling agent at Wilhelmina to introduce him to some theatrical managers. After only 2 months of being signed with a theatrical manager at Luber Roklin he heard about Step Up auditions through a friend and quickly asked for a chance to audition. He was given the chance to audition and after a month long process and 8 auditions later the director called him to say he had gotten the lead role that would change his life.

For the duration of 2012 Ryan has rapidly been thrust into the Hollywood spotlight promoting Step Up Revolution. He now works on continuing to grow as an actor while also expanding on his new career and indulging his curiosities as a writer.
